The Weight of the World

My husband and I have had a different week to say the least. To be quite honest, we have been a little out of sorts lately. Not really sure why.  Maybe we can attribute it to the long cold winter, colder than we in the south have had in a while. (I know the folks up North will cry no tears for me after the winter they’ve had.) Maybe it could be the rain that has persisted for weeks, with little to no sunshine.

Regardless, quite obviously something is amiss when I am digging up weeds in the yard prior to going to work and Eddy is pressure washing the house…in the rain!  Today, I looked him in the eyes and said, “What is up with us? We are making such weird choices.”

Overwhelmed. That is the only explanation I can come up with. God has been walking us through some rough terrain this past year. However, He has never left our side and carried us through the steepest parts.  We have grown, we have cried, we have fought to keep our sense of humor, and we have been absolutely exhausted.

I don’t look at these difficult times as I used to, wrongly thinking that the tough times were for my punishment.  God has freed me from those lies of Satan, from the performance driven relationship I had wrongly cultivated with Him.  Now, even though the road is long, I look for God, for His love, for His desire for a closer relationship, for maturity in my Christian walk. I have much left to learn!

The song I have for you today is entitled “Shoulders.” It is performed by the band For King and Country.  When I listen to this song I am reminded of a picture I saw often during my early Sunday School years.  We used to have to the most beautiful pictures to accompany each lesson we were taught.

The picture in my mind’s eye is of Jesus carrying a lamb across His shoulders, the lamb which He had left the ninety-nine to seek out. His eyes were so gentle, so caring, so full of love. (Luke 15:4) This song describes those shoulders that “carry our weakness, our sickness, our brokeness.”

So, yes, even though Eddy and I feel a little bit discombobulated of late, we know that our Savior has and will continue to lift us onto his shoulders whenever necessary. What a wonderful thing to rest in knowing. What a place of refuge, protection, and love to be. Call on Jesus if you find yourself too weary to take another step. Let Him carry you…on His shoulders.  To God Be The Glory!

Beautifully written as all of your posts are. I pray every morning for all my family and friends for general things but I would pray for specific things if you would share them. Text me things I can pray for specifically for you. Love you So much.

Thank you so very much for reading and for your encouraging words. Means more than you can know.
Do I know you? You appear as “anonymous” on your comments? I do have a prayer request. I would love to have my writings published in book form with a generous amount of the proceeds going to the building fund of my church. We need money to help finish the building completely. I would also like to be able to encourage a broader base of people about the love of Christ through the worst of times and the best of times. I feel that is my purpose. I would be honored to pray for you as well. Just let me know. It would be a privilege.
God bless you and again thank you!
