God Sings Over His People

Zephaniah 3:17 includes an interesting description of God singing over people: “The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”IMG_4021

“Two important observations regarding this passage: first, singing represents God’s joy. The Hebrew phrase translated “he will rejoice over you with singing” can also be translated literally as “he rejoices over you with a shout of joy.” (Excerpt from gotQuestions.org) Well, that just thrills me! What about you?

Having recently gone through some tough times, I literally asked God to sing over me, not knowing what that would look or sound like. The day following that prayer, there was a bird perched on my patio furniture singing its heart out as it peered through the kitchen window.  I laughed out loud and said, “Thank you, Lord, for literally singing over me through the aria of this bird.”  IMG_2239

And the songs have continued. Now my ears are a bit more attuned to hear them! These shouts of joy are made evident through things that bring me the most joy. He sings over me when the most coveted of butterflies I want to photograph comes to rest on my flowers to feed.  I heard his song in a shooting star that flashed across the sky recently. Since childhood I have always loved that sight.

Last night as I enjoyed a moment of peace on my patio, the breeze blowing through the wind chimes playing the most beautiful song. I smiled. He sings over me as I stand in a field of beautiful yellow sunflowers each year and through the sounds of rain falling on a cloudy day. He sings to me through the smiles of my children and the touch of my husband’s hand. IMG_9583

He sings over me in all the daily blessings that I too often take for granted…shelter, food, health,  etc. That list is endless and reminds me to ramp up my rejoicing in return because that song from my lips is equally pleasing to Him. I have loved to sing as far back as I can remember.  So here on this earth I practice praising the One whom I will praise forever in Heaven.

“I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.” (Psalm 104:33)

Open your ears to the songs He sings over you. Allow Him to quiet you with His love. I believe that to detect these songs we must withdraw from the noise in our lives, even if for a few minutes, to hear the melody. Praise Him for the songs and offer your praises, your songs of joy in return to Him. May your daily walk be pleasing to God so that His shouts of joy over you abound! To God Be the Glory!

Thanks so much for being a faithful reader! Glad you enjoyed it. God has been slowly giving me that for a couple of weeks and it all came together as I rested my head on the pillow last night! Blessings!
