Childlike Faith In God

IMG_6996This sentence in “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young captured my attention this morning. I truly believe it was a whisper in my ear from God.  Let me share it with you…”Tell yourself that this is a perfect day to depend on me (God) in childlike trust.”

As Christians, the example of childlike faith and references to this faith are found in scripture and referred to often at church.  Today I understood this concept in its purest sense. For me it was an answer to varying fears that have been quietly idling just below  the surface of my faith in God.

If you are a child of God, He is your Heavenly Father. Now first you have to base this childlike faith on God as your Father without bringing in emotions attached to your own father. Why? Because our earthly fathers are human and not perfect.  However, our Heavenly perfectly, unconditionally loves us, is always present, and wants the very best for us.

That being the case, I exercised my “childlike faith” today. How? I channeled my childhood years and its perks. As a child I never worried about paying bills, having food to eat, clothes to wear, or going to work. I was basically carefree, safe and loved. Life was all riding bicycles, swimming, taking naps and catching fireflies. All my needs were attended to. (And back then all we seemed to want to do was grow up!)

Because I am God’s child, I have no worries in this life because He is the kind of Father who takes care of everything just as everything was taken care of for us when we were children. Just think about that for a moment.  In the best of times and the worst of times our Father is looking out for our good because He loves His children.

Granted life as an adult does bring with it more responsibilities.  However, the worries are optional with God as our Father. We often want to complicate life so much that we lose sight of the simplicity of this truth.

“Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:2-4 ESV)

Now is the time to practice that message of the song “Jesus Take the Wheel.”  We couldn’t drive as children. We didn’t know how or where to go, and as adults not much has changed when it comes to navigating our way down the highways and bumpy roads of our lives. However, our Father has the map for our lives, knows the direction He has chosen for our us, and makes sure we arrive safely.

Put your child-like faith to work today! Trust your Father with all your worries, and put a smile on your face. How long has it been since you smiled? Children smile all the time!

Submit to the Father’s will for your life and rest in Him. Keep in mind that worries and problems will be swirling around us, but it is not our job bear those burdens. Our Father will take care of them for us!  Whew! feeling less fearful and much more at peace! To God Be the Glory!
