A Beacon of Light

IMG_3564Tonight I took down my Christmas decorations. Missed that arbitrary deadline of taking things down before the New Year so you don’t have bad luck!  Good thing I don’t believe in all that! It always looks so lifeless when all the twinkling lights and festive colors adorning our home are packed away for another year.

My tree will be returned to the attic tomorrow.  The corner of our home where it sits is now dark. No longer do lights shine and reflect off the once present ornaments. It’s as if life has been sucked out of the room leaving only darkness behind.

I was reminded of the darkness in the world when observing that scene. We don’t have to look far to see it, hear or read about it.  I was tempted to pull the extension cord back out and turn the lights on for one more night. The darkness of that corner, of this world makes me sad.

However, God quickly reminded me that there is a remedy to the darkness which exists tailor-made by Satan to bring despair, death, and hopelessness. Jesus! It’s Jesus!

(John 8:12) ” Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

(Matthew 5:16)  “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Those who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior no longer live in darkness or have need to fear it.  And, as children of God, that light, the light of Jesus, shines through us chasing darkness away. Plug your, extension cord into the creator of light, the Light of the World. With Him as your power source, darkness will be forced to flee and your corner of influence will glow with His love and salvation.

As you share the light of God’s love with others, they in turn will spread more light in this lost and dying world. There will be no room for darkness to hide. No time to waste.  Go shine your light! To God Alone Be the Glory!

As you say, Light dispels darkness doesn’t it. Thinking about it, a light or candle always looks brighter when total darkness is around – a bit like the light of Jesus shining through us. Thanks for this reminder!
